Burlap & Barrel is a Public Benefit Corporation building new international spice supply chains that are equitable, transparent, and traceable. We source our spices directly from farmer cooperatives and small farms, bypassing brokers and middlemen.

Our cloves, for example, are grown by a cooperative of smallholder artisan farmers on the Zanzibar islands, many of whose families have been growing cloves and other spices for generations. The cloves are hand-picked at the last possible moment before flowering, ensuring the largest size and most mature flavor, and then dried in the tropical sun.
